Norwegian with 28 per cent passenger growth in August
Norwegian continued its passenger growth in August. Approximately 1.3 million passengers flew with the airline last month, an increase of 280 000 (28 per cent) compared to the same month last year.
”Norwegian offered more than 2 000 additional departures in August compared to last year, most of which were operated by new and larger aircraft. We´re therefore very pleased with the considerable passenger growth which indicates that both new and more seasoned Norwegian customers appreciate our product and the continuously growing route portfolio that we offer,” said CEO Bjørn Kjos.
Since August of last year, Norwegian has introduced 11 brand new state-of-the-art Boeing 737-800 aircraft with higher capacity and lower unit cost. Norwegian has an extensive fleet renewal program in progress, and is targeting a uniform fleet of 63 Boeing 737-800s in less than two years. Norwegian’s fleet will expectedly be one of the newest and most efficient in commercial aviation worldwide.
The load factor in August was 79 percent which is a two percentage point decrease since last year. The company operated 99.8 percent of its scheduled flights, of which 85.5 percent departed on time.
